I asked my Twitter friends which section in the Sonoma, Napa, or Marin I should feature for my blog series, "An Afternoon in Wine Country," and Healdsburg came up the most. Okay, it came up twice, but other sections only came up once.
So, here we go.... I introduce you to Healdsburg, in one afternoon (my definition of an afternoon allows for an hour drive from SF at noon, so my afternoon series will feature activities that can be done between 1p - 5p, in case you were wondering).
Food: Fried Okra and a Po-boy Sandwich at the Parish cafe, just south of the square. Try the half oyster/half shrimp, or my personal favorite - the fried green tomato po-boy. Chef Rob Lippincott’s New Orleans restaurant is a cafe that stays true to its roots - good, simple Cajun and Creole food. Grab some fresh Beignets to go!

Drink: Cartograph Wines just opened a new tasting room, just off the main plaza (340 Center St., Healdsburg, CA). They are known for their pinot noirs, but Alan & Serena (owners and winemakers) make an amazing gewürztraminer.
You will be greeted by friendly smiles, delicious wines, and occasionally some treats from their garden.
Fun: Savor Healdsburg Food Tours is a new company that provides tours of downtown Healdsburg (if you are not too full from lunch). Their three-hour Farm to Table Food Tour through downtown will share the culture and personality of idyllic Healdsburg and this World-Class culinary region – from a local’s perspective.
