Music on Instagram Reels
If you have a business or Creator Instagram account, you may have received a notification from Instagram talking about their music library within reel tool on their social network. It looks like Instagram (aka Facebook) is changing things up for Instagram users again…
What changed with music on Instagram reels?
I've had a love-hate relationship when it comes to music on Instagram Stories. I've always had a business Instagram page since that was an option (I am a HUGE fan of this option for brands because of the access to nights and ads). I used to have the music option as a sticker in my Instagram Stories app. Then it was taken away, then I got it again, then it was taken away, and then when reels on Instagram was first introduced, I had music again and I was so excited because I was at home and wanting to start creating more video on Instagram.
Then it got taken away again…
With this recent change, Instagram introduced music for reals and Instagram stories once again. The caveat is that it is a limited number of songs that are available. Stock songs that really aren’t that exciting.
As I mentioned to a few people when they asked me about it via Instagram DM - I get it. As a business, if I was to create a promotional post trying to sell wine and using the latest Beyonce song, then basically I would be using Beyonce to advertise my brand. you can get into a lot of trouble that way. So it looks like Facebook / Instagram took that away from Business Instagram accounts and Creator Instagram accounts.
A workaround for music on Instagram reels…
For now, I found a good workaround for business Instagram accounts to use music on reels. If you are scrolling through reals, and find a song, or audio (like for example the “Fold in the Cheese” clip from Schitt’s Creek) - you can save the audio and use it on your own reels (this doesn’t work for Instagram Stories though).
How To Create Music on Instagram Reels For Business Accounts
Find a song you like on someone else’s Instagram reel.
Click the song title at the bottom of the video.
It will take you to a page filled with other Instagram reels using the same audio.
Click save (the small bookmark icon on the top right) or click USE AUDIO at the bottom to create an Instagram reel right away.
When you go to create an Instagram Reel in the future, click audio on the left menu and then click SAVED at the top of your music library.
Use the music on Reels -- or audio. :) I am excited to make a video for the Quesadilla challenge with the “Fold in the Cheese” clip from Schitt's Creek.
That should be a good way for business pages to get around the stock music for reels.. For now. As for creating creative and fun reels where I don’t have to dance - I am still figuring that part out, so stay tuned for more info on how to create reels for your business!
