Spring Clean Your Marketing Posts of the Week

Last night my son came home from school and instantly noticed the dining room table was empty.

He asked me where all his stuff went, and when I said I “cleaned it” he looked very confused, his face asking why I would do such a thing!?! I laughed and said, “it’s spring cleaning, next up is your room.”

For small business owners like myself, spring cleaning isn’t just about opening up a few windows and putting away your winter clothing. I also find it’s a good time for a mindset shift.

Spring cleaning your marketing is moment to take a step back, look at your word of the year and the goals you gave yourself at the beginning of the year, then write down how it’s going — AND where you would like to be.

Once a quarter, I like to spend a few hours away from my computer (preferably at a wine bar or coffee shop) going through my social media and website analytics and planning for the next few months.

This is also the time I assess what “bad” habits I have reverted back to (just a few that jump to the top of my mind: heading straight to my deck when I get home from school dropoff, spending too much time in front of the computer, NOT meal planning). And plan ahead for how I can plan ahead to change those habits.

One thing I have found works for me is hitting play on PopSugar Fitness videos on my TV (the Apple TV YouTube app) in the living room before I leave to drop my son off at school. Instead of heading straight to my desk when I get home, I stop and tell myself I will work out along with the video. Sometimes I will do 2 minutes, sometimes it’s been 20 minutes! And hey, it all counts!

Here are a few other posts & podcasts I loved this first week of Spring:

  • More than 45% of our actions are not actual decisions but are instead habits... This article on How To Form A Habit To Pursue Your Goals On Autopilot was really helpful for me to really look at how I could turn some of my “bad” habits that I go back to when my brain is on autopilot into good habits that move me towards my goals.

  • Speaking of autopilot, this podcast episode is called How to DO THE WORK from Amy Porterfield's pod Online Marketing Made Easy. This episode is definitely one I saved, and have already listened to 2x! I am so happy people are talking more about how mental health impacts everything, including your work!

  • Spring is a great time to invest in some new office tools that can help you with staying on track. Here are a few of my favorite work from home (or back at the office) tools.

  • I am excited to be speaking at this year's WIN Wine Packaging Conference in Santa Rosa this May! I'll be talking all about creating an experience with your packaging. Join me: #packxplore!

  • Would love to see more wine businesses, etc hire data marketers that can test, and drive strategy for businesses: Data literacy is set to be the most in-demand skill by 2030.

  • Did you know that TikTok was the single most popular website on the internet in 2021?!? True story! WOW! My friend Jess quoted me in her SF Chronicle article about TikTok and the wine industry (hint, you can use the app to SELL wine, it’s just not black and white…)

  • I have written about spring cleaning your social media habits, which I will be rereading and doing this week! (these tips are specific to helping you so you can spend less time on social media while still making sales!).

  • Have fun with your social media marketing! It’s spring - which is a great excuse to get outside and take a walk while brainstorming!

If you are looking to talk more about spring cleaning your content marketing, set up a 45- strategy session with me! I would love to help your brand out by answering questions and brainstorming new ideas.
